The case of Lucy Letby concerns the use of medical experts to carry out scientific investigations, without any concern for the need to ensure that the most suitable experts were obtained. The scientific evidence used to convict Lucy was tenuous and the conduct of the expert falls under the category of that described in Reed-type cases (Ward, 2020). these are cases that raise issues about the reliability of evaluative inference made by an expert witness.
